It's Coming Home...sort of.

Updated: Sep 29, 2022

Football is back. In a way. But what are we to expect from the second wave of the Premier League?

It's back! Excited? No? Possibly not actually, but we'll take it for the moment.

By the powers of greyhair, we're getting a schedule of football stuffed down our throats over the next few weeks, with enough packing power to make even the staunchest of statue-defenders go yet more puce. Like a terrified goose at a South-Western French farm, those great minds at Premier League HQ have even seen fit to allow us that lesser seen phenomenon 'free-to-air', so there really is no escape.

"Sky have, ever generous, given the BBC the type of fixtures that would make the most fervent fan hope for an incoming second wave..."

But what are we to expect? Well, Sky have, ever generous, given the BBC the type of fixtures that would make the most fervent fan hope for an incoming second wave. Bon chance Gary & co, drumming up interest in Bournemouth vs Crystal Palace.

MAN ON!

One of the things that we folk here at Sportato are most excited about is the lack of crowds. Okay, so football might be about to get spooky, and yes, of course, it's going to be very, very strange. But think about it for a moment - if there's nobody there to holler their oh-so-inventive new use of Seven Nation Army, surely we're going to be able to hear the erudite thoughts of Steve Bruce a whole lot more clearly? What's more, are we about to discover that James Ward-Prowse is actually the lippiest tyke out there?

Secondly, how are the various clubs going to ham-fistedly address the various societal white elephants out there? Will there be minutes of silence prior to games, with the players all wearing the number 19 and COVID lettered on their shirts? Will John Terry unironically take the knee?

These are the real questions, dear reader, that the likes of Sportato will be keeping a wary eye on over the next few weeks.

Onwards then brave lockdowners. Onwards to...err...Aston Villa vs Sheffield United. An opener, we're sure, to soothe the soul.
